Low-Order Modeling to Investigate Clusters of Intrinsic Thermoacoustic Modes in Annular Combustors

چکیده

Abstract The intrinsic thermoacoustic (ITA) feedbackloop constitutes a coupling between flow, flame and acoustics that does not involve the natural acoustic modes of system. One recent study showed ITA in annular combustors come significant number with peculiar behavior clusters, i.e. several close frequencies. In present work, an analytical model typical combustor is derived via Riemann invariants Bloch theory. resulting formulation describes full system as longitudinal outlet reflection coefficient depends on frequency azimuthal mode order. explains underlying mechanism clustering phenomena structure clusters associated different orders. addition, phasor analysis proposed, which encloses conditions for 1D remains valid when describing combustor.

Mitigating Combustion-driven Oscillation (Thermoacoustic Instability) in Industrial Combustors

Combustion processes generate a band-limited pseudo-random sound that is often referred to as “combustion roar.” Although combustion roar sound is moderately intense but it is rather straight forward to quiet to a non-objectionable level by properly applying sound absorbing material around the burner area. In addition to the 'roar' sound which almost always exists in any confined combustion, on...

Acoustic streaming measurements in annular thermoacoustic engines.

Experiments with an annular thermoacoustic engine employing quasiadiabatic interaction between traveling acoustic waves and an inhomogeneously heated porous material indicate the presence of a closed-loop mass flux. A qualitative modeling of the enthalpy flux in the thermoacoustic core provides an opportunity to estimate the thermal convection associated with this mass flux, by using temperatur...

Experimental and theoretical study of processes leading to steady-state sound in annular thermoacoustic engines.

This paper gives a simplified analytical description of spontaneous generation and finite amplitude saturation of sound in annular thermoacoustic engines, and also provides comparison with experiments. The model includes the precise description of thermoacoustic amplification of sound (induced by interaction between an heterogeneously heated stack of solid plates and resonant gas oscillations),...

Nonlinear modeling of thermoacoustic systems

Thermoacoustic systems convert energy from heat to acoustic power and vice versa. These systems have commercial interest due to the high potential efficiency and low number of moving parts. To numerically predict the performance of a thermoacoustic device inherent nonlinearities in the system, such as thermoacoustic streaming and generation of harmonics need to be taken into account. We present...

Stability analysis of thermo-acoustic nonlinear eigenproblems in annular combustors. Part II. Uncertainty quantification

Monte Carlo and Active Subspace Identification methods are combined with firstand second-order adjoint sensitivities to perform (forward) uncertainty quantification analysis of the thermo-acoustic stability of two annular combustor configurations. This method is applied to evaluate the risk factor, i.e., the probability for the system to be unstable. It is shown that the adjoint approach reduce...
